Urban regeneration and touristization of the historic center of San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico (1974-2022)

Most of the historical city centres with architectural heritage are undergoing urban regeneration dynamics that consolidate the processes of touristisation. The objective of this article is to analyse an exploratory case study of the city of San Jos & eacute; del Cabo, located in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, which began to be immersed in public policies on tourism in the early seventies of the last century, with consequent urban regeneration initiatives that consolidated tendencies of touristisation of its historical centre. The evidence shows an urban regeneration policy promoted by the three levels of government with the objective of consolidating alternatives to the sun and beach activities for which this tourist destination was initially designed.
