Complex, amplitude and phase-only holograms using bipolar approximation

摘要
Computer-generated holograms (CGHs) usually require the computation of a large number of trigonometric functions. However, because the computation of trigonometric functions requires a relatively long time, lookup tables (LUTs) are often used in software and hardware implementations for CGH calculations. In particular, the use of LUTs leads to increased memory requirements, and difficulting hardware-based CGH computations. This study reveals the image quality of complex, amplitude and phase-only CGHs using a bipolar approximation method that approximates trigonometric functions using only +1 and-1 values. This method does not require the use of LUTs. Simulation and optical reconstructions showed sufficient image quality.
