Urothelial carcinoma canine ureter: Case report

Primary neoplasms of the ureter, although rare, usually present as malignant and epithelial neoformations, with urothelial carcinoma being one of the most common. Complete luminal interruption of the ureter leads to progressive dilation of the upper urinary tract causing renal conditions such as hydronephrosis, pyelonephritis, renal parenchymal injury, and loss of renal function. The aim of this report is to describe a surgical case of neoplastic ureteral resection caused by low-grade urothelial carcinoma. It is concluded that although rare, urothelial carcinoma should be one of the differential diagnoses for ureteral obstruction and when it is only located in this region, the prognosis is favorable and surgery for tumor removal is a satisfactory treatment for this neoplasm.
