摘要
This scoping review spotlights views and experiences of young adults with intellectual disabilities and their families on transition from school to adult life. 3100 potentially-relevant studies were screened and 102 meeting search criteria identified. Descriptive analysis and thematic synthesis were undertaken on the 50 papers published after 2010. A planned and collaborative transition process and encouragement of emerging adulthood were found to support positive experiences when leaving school. Transition experiences were further helped by: positive relationships and social inclusion, living skills and supports, and having a good choice of post-school opportunities. Within the period covered by the review, there was a stronger focus on the views of families than on those of young adults. Many studies relied on standard written and/or verbal communication and a relatively small proportion incorporated inclusive research strategies. Further research on this topic would benefit from increased inclusion of and accessibility to participants with intellectual disabilities.
