Thermoelastic Response of Porous Media Considering Spatial Scale Effects of Heat Transfer and Deformation

Thermoelastic analysis is becoming important along with the miniaturization of porous media, in which size effect on heat conduction and elastic deformation increases and classical thermoelastic coupling theory is no longer applicable. In this work, a nonlocal thermoelastic model is established for porous media by considering both the size effect of heat conduction and elasticity. The new model is applied to study the transient responses of a porous half-space subjected to thermal and mechanical shock. In the numerical part, Laplace transform method and its numerical inversion are adopted, and the effects of the elastic nonlocal parameter, the thermal nonlocal parameter and the magnitude of mechanical/thermal shock on the thermoelastic fields are analyzed and presented graphically. The results show that the elastic nonlocal parameter makes the stress distribution smoother, and the thermal nonlocal parameter makes the temperature distribution smoother. This may provide insight for theoretical modeling of porous media at micro/nanoscale.
