Removal of organic compounds using halloysite by Fenton-like process

摘要
This study presents the first application of a halloysite-based coagulant for treating stabilized landfill leachate, using a modified process that combines the Fenton reaction and coagulation. Optimization of the Fenton process was conducted through Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Coagulation efficacy was evaluated about pH, while the Fenton process focused on removing color, COD, and UV absorbance at 254 nm (UV254), analyzing the effects of varying hydrogen peroxide and iron dosages. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to assess the relationship between process variables and outcomes, specifically COD, color, and UV254, in the Fenton process. The results indicated that iron dosage was a more significant factor in removing color and UV254, whereas H2O2 dosage had a greater impact on COD removal. Under optimal conditions, a maximum COD removal efficiency of 77.7 % was achieved with an H2O2 dosage of 3.5 mg/L and an iron dosage of 2 mg/L. Overall, the study demonstrated that applying a halloysite-based coagulant in a combined Fenton process and coagulation could be an effective method for the pretreatment of stabilized leachate.
