摘要
The presence of algal communities in two urban freshwater ponds located in the town of Silchar, in the Cachar District of Assam, India, was examined. The physicochemical properties of the water at these locations were analyzed, and 37 algal species belonging to the taxonomic groups Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Bacillariophyceae and Euglenophyceae were identified. The frequency, density and abundance of algal species were determined to assess their distribution and prevalence in sampled freshwater ponds. Three algal species, Chlamydomonas globosa, Chlorella sp. and Kirchneriella obesa, were isolated as pure cultures, and their growth characteristics, biochemical profiles, and Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) profiles were analyzed. The Chlorella sp. showed good potential for biodiesel generation. © 2024, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Society for Plant Research.
