Ni3Al intermetallics are known for their excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures. In this work; thermal stability of spark-plasma sintered Al-matrix composites reinforced with Ni3Al particles is investigated. Composites were sintered at 16 MPa and 450 °C for 3 min and aging treatments at 300; 400 and 500 °C were applied. After 500 h of aging at 300 and 400 °C the Ni3Al intermetallic is still present. After 5 h of aging at 500 °C; Ni3Al transforms into a mixture of the Al3Ni and Al3Ni2 intermetallics. The transformation progressed until only Al3Ni can be detected; dispersed in the Al matrix. Effects of aging in microhardness were limited at 300 and 400 °C; but an important decrease was observed at 500 °C. © 2024 Elsevier B.V;
