A coating material for sealing the joint between moving; adjoining refractory surfaces at high temperature has been developed. The coating utilizes a specially coated expandable graphite with a high intumescence onset temperature. The results from different steel plant trials with monoblock tundish nozzle plate and monoblock tundish shroud plate have shown clear benefits to this patented technology. This paper describes the key aspects of the technology; the advantages it offers and some recent field results from steel plants;
