Integrating Bioethical Principles into Civic Education for College Students: A Biotechnological Perspective

The integration of bioethical principles into Civic Education for college students is becoming increasingly essential as advancements in biotechnology raise new ethical considerations. This study proposes a framework for Civic Education that utilizes bioethical insights to deepen students' understanding of their moral and civic responsibilities. The research explores the application of care ethics, particularly the dynamics between caregivers and receivers, and applies these concepts to the teacher-student relationship within higher education. By incorporating a biotechnological perspective, the study examines how modern biotechnological developments can inform and enhance ethical education. The proposed model focuses on three key areas: the design of educational objectives, curriculum structuring, and the implementation of moral education practices. The findings reveal that integrating bioethical principles into these areas leads to increased student motivation and engagement. Specifically, 41.0% of students reported strong motivation, while 30.49% expressed a high level of engagement with Civic Education initiatives grounded in bioethics. These results underscore the potential for bioethics to significantly enhance Civic Education, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of both civic and ethical responsibilities in the context of a rapidly evolving biotechnological landscape. © 2024, Journal of Commercial Biotechnology.
