摘要
The Boundary layer, the atmosphere up to the altitude of several kilometers, affects daily lives of human beings in that it produces wind, rain, and so on and it is becoming very important for people especially in the engineering field to know exact nature of wind movements around the point of concern. The authors have developed the transportable S-band boundary layer radar (S-BLR) for measuring complicated movements of the winds and been continuously carrying out measurements at Shigaraki MU observatory of Kyoto University. Practical side of the feature of the system is to employ a compact phased array antenna, realized by taking advantage of S-band frequency (3.05 GHz). As a result, portability of the system is greatly improved enabling you to carry the whole system on a small truck. Characteristic side of the feature is to employ the pulse compression technique resulting in the improvement of 9 dB of the received echo signal to noise ratio. In this paper, the authors describe details of the radar system and evaluate correctness of the data measured with the S-BLR by comparing them with the data taken simultaneously by the MU radar.
