The electron-phonon interaction in Ba//2YCu//3O//7 is calculated using a realistic tight-binding theory which is based on first-principles energy-band results. In contrast to a previous study of the 40 K superconductor La//2// minus //x(Ba, Sr)//xCuO//4, the calculated values for the electron-phonon coupling are far too small to yield superconducting transition temperatures in the 90 K range.
