This volume reviews the liquefaction processes that are being actively developed in the United States. They are grouped in three main classes: Hydroliquefaction; Extraction donor solvent; and Indirect liquefaction. The most favored method is to add hydrogen to oil-based coal slurry and heating the mixture at high pressures. The emphasis was placed upon the behavior of materials in the environments of coal conversion systems.
