With the large number of microprocessor based operating systems being developed by the industry, a set of guidelines to aid in the process can now be derived. This study examines the history of an operating system developed at NCR Corporation to illustrate some suggested guidelines. Starting with developer testing of the initial release, one complete integration and test effort is described, with a discussion of how subsequent versions were managed.
