摘要
The authors investigated corrosion in 3% sodium chloride solution in comparison with natural seawater. They conclude that the main anodic process is conversion of copper to cuprous oxide which dissolves forming Cu** plus , CuCl//2** minus , and CuCl//3**2** minus . Diffusional removal of these ionic forms from the surface of the corroding metal governs the rate of corrosion. Owing to the buffer properties of sea water, the rate of formation of cuprous oxide is lower and the rate of generation of ionic forms higher than in 3% NaCl solution.
