Capacity enhancement of combustion turbines using ice harvesting thermal energy storage

Combustion Turbines with electric generators are proving to be the power generation method of choice for the near future. Widely used for peaking power, one major disadvantage is the degradation of capacity and heat rate on hot, humid summer design ambient days. Cooling the inlet air of the combustion turbine increases the mass flow rate and improves the combustion turbine performance. Using a thermal energy storage for turbine inlet air cooling (TESTIAC) offers an economical solution when short duration capacity enhancements are requirement.
