SiCw/Al composite is a new material which has high strength and low weight. In ultra-precision machining of the SiCw/Al composites with single point diamond tool (SPDT), surface finish of Ra = 0.01 μm is reached. In precision machining of the SiCw/Al composites, the effections of percentage and direction of the SiC whisker and the cutting parameters on cutting surface integrity of the SiCw/Al composites are studied. The mechanism of cutting deformation of the SiCw/Al composite is also searched with SEM and TEM analysis.
