摘要：
Vapor deposition, ion implantation, electroplating, thermal and plasma spray techniques - all used in aerospace and defence - could be more widely exploited by design engineers, especially as new developments emerge. Surface engineering is not only concerned with surface modification and coating but also with the substrate condition so that the benefits of very thin, very hard surface coatings can be fully exploited.
