Role of plastic deformation in the thermal destruction of refractories

Plastic deformations developing during the high- temperature operation of refractories reduces the temperature stresses, and thus increases the thermal- shock resistance of the material. This is also confirmed both by calculations and by experiment. At relatively low temperatures (in the first temperature range) for which plastic deformations are practically absent, the thermal shock resistance of the refractories is relatively low. 6 refs.
