Electro-slag welding has found increasing application in the manufacture of heavy steel rolling mill equipment where the ability to join thick plates, castings and/or forgings has imposed difficulty and delivery delays. Principles of the process and typical parts joined, such as steel converter vessels, shear bolsters, etc. , are described.
