THEORY OF GAS OUTBURST ON THE BASIS OF THE VARIOUS FIELD OBSERVATIONS AND ITS VERIFICATION BY AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY.

On the basis of field observation of various gas outburst phenomena which have occurred at coal mines in Hokkaido it is emphasized that the origin of gas outburst could be nothing but the gas energy. Referring to the actual examples it is demonstrated that any gas outburst does not happen in reality unless certain conditions or mechanisms to facilitate its occurrence are satisfied. As a verification of this opinion, the experiments were made to cause gas outburst artificially by using ice charged with high pressure carbon dioxide.
