The design engineer is faced with difficult decisions in choosing the most economical reinforced thermoplastic that will successfully meet the performance criteria for an application. Processing economy, part design, performance criteria and part volume, dictate the method of manufacture (i. e. , injection, extrusion and thermoforming, compression molding, etc. ) as well as the choice of resin. Therefore, this article presents a ″Glass Reinforced Thermoplastic Compound Selector″ which serves as a useful tool in performing the initial screening based on the characteristics desired for the application.
