Experimental results are presented for various helical-ribbon agitators, for a multistage blade-impeller with tilted blades, and for sigma-blade kneaders. The volume-related work of mixing is determined as a function of the number of ribbons, the pitch-to-diameter ratio of the ribbons and the wall clearance. For the sigma-blade kneader the effect of the ratio of the speeds of the mixing arms was studied. Advantageous mixing arrangements and working conditions are proposed.
