A study was carried out to investigate the behavior of polyurethane (PU) coatings on ″difficult″ hot-galvanized substrates. Based on the findings of this study, three systems can be recommended for the coating of hot-galvanized steel with PU paints: (1) A one-coat system with outstanding protective properties, but with limitations from the decorative point of view; (2) Two-coat systems without decorative limitations but with restrictions under severe condensation under conditions of extreme humidity and condensation; (3) One-pack zinc dust primer based on moisture-curing PU, plus a top-coat.
