TECHNOLOGY FOR COMPUTER HARDWARE.

The paper covers the present status of development and production of computer hardware. The computer design costs are pushed up by shrinking of product life cycle due to fast pace of technology and increase in development costs. But, they are more than off-set due to standardization, increase in volumes and new technologies. There is a tendency in the country to import and assemble 'Kits' rather than to develop and do genuine manufacture. Though it makes seemingly appear that this approach offers lower risk and lesser material cost, the industry will become hollow and perpetuate a dangerous trend towards dependence on foreign vendors. The paper suggests approaches which the computer industry may follow to allow healthy and balanced growth.
