Ionenes based on polyvinyl alcohol and the rheological properties of their solutions

A method is proposed for the single-stage synthesis of ionenes based on PVAlc, excluding the formation of the gel fraction, achieved by use of the activating effect of ammonium groups of the acylating fragment of the esters of haloacetic acids which allows one to dispense with activation through the leaving groups. The quantitative dependence of the reduced viscosity on the concentration satisfactorily observed over a wide concentration interval leading to quite strict determination of the intrinsic viscosity of the polyionenes has been established.
