摘要：

The geometrical imperfections which may occur in cooling tower shells are described and classified. Previous research relating to such imperfections is reviewed with the objective of drawing out important generalizations. The application of the finite element procedure to this problem is examined and the relation of geometric imperfections to buckling capacity is discussed. Finally, future research needs in this field are enumerated.
