The velocimeter cannot be used to measure flow rate directly. Therefore, a relationship has been developed between volume flow rate and center-line velocity. To do this, a digital computer finite difference solution of the Navier Stokes equation for incompressible flow was used. A mathematical model, obtained from measured open-loop center-line data was used as the basis for control system optimization using an analog computer. The predicted responses for center-line velocity were in close agreement with experimental results.
