摘要
A report is presented on a discovery of means for toughening partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) ceramics to help blaze the trail toward higher engine efficiencies and temperatures. The materials properties that make PSZ ceramics suitable for adiabatic engine components and for severe wear areas in conventional engines are reviewed. A table showing applicability of toughened PSZ to different engine components is also presented.
