The authors investigated commercial alpha - (VT1-0, PT7-M, VT5-1), pseuedo- alpha - (OT4-1, and alpha plus beta - (VT6s) titanium alloys nitrided at 900-1100 degree C. Nitriding forms diffusion layers consisting of a nitride layer and a gas-saturated layer. In alpha plus beta -Ti alloys, a third additional transient zone forms. Nitriding schedules also have an effect on alloying element redistribution.
