The growing importance of the role of the World Meteorological Organization in weather modification activities was underlined at the twenty-fourth session (1972) of the Executive Committee when the suggestion was made to hold a scientific conference on this subject. The International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics (IAMAP) agreed to co-sponsor such a conference and at the invitation of the Hydrometeorological Service of the U. S. S. R. the Scientific Conference on Weather Modification was held in Tashkent from 1-8 October 1973. This publication contains the 58 papers presented at this Conference. The eight sessions of the conference comprised the following subjects: Fog dispersal; rain enhancement; snow enhancement; hail suppression; other aspects of weather modification; technical and operational aspects of weather modification; physical, statistical and economic evaluations of weather modification; and ice nuclei technology.
