摘要
Microstructure is considered to give a better criterion of machinability and each type of machining operation is believed to have an optimum microstructure for better machinability ratings. Effect of different heat treatments on the machining characteristics of some carburizing steels has been studied in this paper with the consideration of maximum productivity and the results interpreted in terms of microstructure. Time required to drill a constant depth under carefully controlled conditions has been used to obtain the feed which is taken as an indication of machinability. All observations are compared and discussed and dependence of machinability on cutting speed is also dealt with.
