Role of diffusion factors in the dynamics of acetone vapor sorption by carbon-fibre sorbents

Diffusion processes were studied in carbon fibre sorbents made up in the form of felt-like nonwoven materials from stapled activated carbon fibre tow having an extent of combustion loss of 20%. The dynamics of acetone vapor sorption was studied by the method of measuring output adsorption curves at a velocity of the vapor-air mixture stream from 0.05 to 0.3 m/sec and an initial acetone concentration from 0.1 to 3.5 g/m3. For analysis, output curves at a bed length greater than the working bed length were used. The curves were calculated from the Treible equation. The output curve had an S-shaped, blurred character, determined by the effects of lengthwise diffusion and the sorption kinetics.
