摘要
Several factors influencing engine valve oil consumption were experimentally investigated, since valve oil consumption cannot be neglected when the oil consumption of an engine is concerned. Although valve oil consumption is influenced by the oil volume fed to the valve assembly and the clearance between the valve stem and the guide, it is concluded that the consumption is determined by the volume of oil adhering to the valve stem. An oil deflector and an O ring, attached to the valve assembly, were effective in reducing valve oil consumption at low engine speeds, but not effective at high speeds. Oil seals were most effective in controlling valve oil consumption. A test apparatus which has the same mechanism as that of the real valve of an engine should be used in performance evaluations of oil seals. The intake valve oil consumption was much more than that of the exhaust valve. The former increases with engine load. The exhaust valve oil consumption showed very little relation to the engine load.
