摘要
The beam propagation method is a numerical method for calculating the propagation of light in structures with small variations in refractive index. It is of use in the design and simulation of optical communication devices such as fibers, fiber splices, curved waveguides, integrated optics, lasers, and gratings. The author gives an introduction to the theory and some examples of applications to illustrate the power and flexibility of the method.
