Since the passage in February 1977 of Part 73. 55 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10CFR73. 55), requirements of Physical Protection of Licensed Activities in Nuclear Power Reactors Against Industrial Sabotage, major efforts have been made in the design and installation of plant security systems for nuclear power plants to meet the new regulations. This paper presents an approach to the design and installation of a plant security system in a nuclear power plant. It highlights the design considerations and features of the subsystems which comprise the total plant security system and the sequence of events from conception to final testing and acceptance of the system.
