Enron Corp.'s 225,000-mtpy newsprint mill in Garfield, New Jersey, was closed in December 2001. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The loss of Enron North America, its biggest customer, and low newsprint prices were cited as the reasons for the shutdown. An undisclosed amount of newsprint was purchased by Enron North America from Garden State Paper for resale on the company's online trading platform.
