Bucket elevators are continuous conveyors for vertical transport of loose bulk materials. The workhorse among them is the 'heavy-duty' bucket elevator. To justify this title it has to fulfill certain requirements. Bucket elevators have a history of several thousand years of development behind them. They were used in ancient Egypt, for scooping up water and irrigating the fields. In those days the transport elements were clay pots and the traction agent was hemp rope.
