We consider an algorithm for estimating the time position of a packet of pulses with known envelope in the presence of fluctuation noise and interfering rereflections. The envelope is produced by two antennas in antiphase connection with partially overlapping directivity patterns. Utilization of the maximum-likelihood method to measure the delay of such signals is difficult owing to the rigid requirements applying to the a priori estimate. The concepts and methods of an optimal discrete Kalman filter were used in developing the algorithm. The necessary operations have been worked out for solution of the problem with the given signals and have been simplified so that the algorithm can be realized by a microprocessor.
