The forest, shipbuilding, and mining and mineral processing industries furnish the bulk of Finland's manufactured and exported goods. Various chemical, engineering, and the textile industries provide the remainder. Finland is also currently involved in high technology such as energy technology including industrial and domestic, energy conservation, diversification and consolidation of the security of energy supplies; information technology including next generation computer hardware and software technology; new technology associated with mass communication; chemical technology including exploitation of domestic materials, new chemical processing, polymer research, and biotechnology; mechanical technology including fracture mechanics, new engineering materials, coatings, ore refining; and building and transportation technology such as fire safety and new materials.
