Calorimetric investigation of the movement of phase interfaces in a Cu-Al-Ni single crystal

The calorimetric method was used to study the martensitic transformation in a Cu-28.1Al-3.71Ni (%at) single crystal. Three specimens were prepared by spark-cutting from a Cu-28.1Al-3.71Ni (at%) single crystal grown by the Bridgman method, annealed at 1000°C and quenched to water of 0°C. Results obtained were discussed in terms of transformation heats and temperatures. In general, the results indicate that the transformation processes are influenced by size and shape of the specimens.
