This paper deals with the analysis of the operation and modeling of a semi-batch esterification process in a tank. A rigorous study of the influence of different numerical parameters on the calculation time and the accuracy is presented as well as study of the physical parameters and the choice of the optimal operation conditions. The models and computation methods which have been developed in the special case of oleic acid esterification by methanol, can be used for other esterification and transesterification reactions. Theoretical predictions from the model are compared with experimental results from a pilot reactor. The agreement is very good between the model and the experience.
