This is an extensive summary of a new developed test method in which an oscillatory shear force is applied to the steel-rubber interface of a steel cord in a standard static block adhesion sample, and means are provided for varying the mode of control (stroke or load), amplitude (stroke or load), temperature, frequency, and applied waveform (haversine or sine). A closed-loop electrohydraulic test machine is used to program the hydraulic actuators and to measure accurately the load and actuator stroke by means of transducers (a strain gage load cell and a linear variable differential transformer). Details of the test equipment and procedure are given.
