Results are given on the thermal structure of the layer of atmosphere near the water and of a thin surface layer of the sea. The studies were made in open water of the Black Sea in the summer-fall months of 1971 and 1972. Direct temperature recordings in these layers provide estimates of the heat fluxes from the sea to the air, with the thermal characteristics of the layers adjoining the sea surface.
