THE NONLINEAR BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR THE CURRENT-VOLTAGE CHARACTERISTICS OF A PHOTOVOLTAIC JUNCTION IS SOLVED ANALYTICALLY WHEN CARRIER RECOMBINATION IS TAKEN TO OCCUR AT LOCALIZED CENTERS. WE SHOW THAT AN APPROPRIATE CHOICE OF THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION (THREE CENTERS IN THE DIFFERENT ZONES) SIMULATE A SPATIALLY UNIFORM RECOMBINATION PROCESS. DIFFERENT CHOICES OF THE RECOMBINATION CENTERS ARE STUDIED AND THEIR EFFECT ON THE CURRENT-VOLTAGE CHARACTERISTICS IS COMPUTED IN DARK AND LIGHT EXPOSED CONDITIONS. WE SHOW HOW THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE CENTERS INFLUENCES THE SOLAR CELL PERFORMANCE.
