Corrosion behavior of ACSR and AAC conductors has not been satisfactory and several corrosion failures of the transmission distribution lines have been reported particularly in industrial and marine environments. This paper deals with two typical case studies on the corrosion behavior of steel reinforced aluminum conductor (ACSR) in sulfur bearing industrial atmospheres (CS2, SO2, etc) and aluminum conductor reinforced with aluminum alloy NML-PM2 (ACAR) in coastal environments. The results show that E.C. strands of both ACSR and ACAR exhibited greater degrees of deterioration of properties due to pitting as compared to the NML-PM2 strands.
