摘要
The validity of trajectory analysis, which has been used to obtain a reliable mathematical description of the capture of suspended particles by a deep bed filter, was examined by a single model cylinder of well-defined geometry from two points of view: (i) Comparison of theoretically calculated collection efficiencies with experimental data. (ii) Comparison of theoretically calculated angle distributions of deposits with experimental data. Under conditions where double-layer repulsion forces were negligible and contributions from Brownian diffusion were small, these comparisons confirmed the usefulness of trajectory calculations. The efficiencies of deep-bed filteres in removing suspended particles may be predicted by the use of trajectory calculations for any filter, provided the flow pattern in the filter bed as well as the physical and physicochemical properties of the filter media, suspended particles and liquid are known. © 2015, Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan.
