Following the 20-inch and 22-inch tubes introduced in 1976, a 26-inch tube was developed and put on the production line as 110 degree deflection self-convergence type in-line color picture tube. This paper describes this 26-inch tube which realizes a compact TV chassis design and higher resolution. This series adopts the in-line electron gun and saddle/toroidal deflection yoke. By the use of a new field controller, they have achieved perfect self-convergence for the first time for large size 110 degree tubes and consume much less power than conventional tubes. The tube dispenses with the dynamic convergence circuitry on the TV chassis and makes cooler operation of the chassis possible as it requires less deflection power.
