NEW TURN-AND-FEED DRIVE OF A COLD ROLLING TUBE MILL.

To reduce the number of members which are moved at varying speeds during the feeding operation, it is necessary to transfer the billet clamping force from the drives which do not participate in this motion. A possible member to transfer the clamping force from a stationary drive to a moving clamping element is a pressure roller which is fitted on a driven member of the clamping unit. Aschematic diagaram of the new feed mechanism which satisfies the condition formulated above is presented. The billet is fed by a transporting device into the space between the clamping elements. In the period which precedes the feed, the cams interact with the levels through rollers and move the clamping elements towards each other, as the result the rollers act on the clamping elements and clamp them around the tube billet. During the synthesis of this mechanism the problem of providing a non-stop adjustment of the feed is also solved.
