The paper describes the various phases and general results of equipment modernization in the program conducted by the Topographic Engineering Group of the U. S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Command (MERADCOM) at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This discussion describes the various test phases in the evaluation of an electronic distance measuring instrument and shows the extent to which testing occurs.
